Scott Lake State Park, KS

The next stop on our adventure was Scott Lake State Park, KS.  We have a United States map that we are filling in all the states we have been in since we moved to Florida.  Kansas was a big white spot in the middle of the country around all the colorful stickers of all the states we had been to.  That was the  motivation for finding a stop or two in Kansas.

The park is really nice.   It was interesting how lush the park was after driving through miles of flat.   The lake and water source made it a pleasant surprise.  We have a view of the lake from our campsite.  First time we have had a site with trees in a while.  Our first night we heard some noise in the middle of the night.  The next morning, Dave found these raccoon prints on his chair and this is what the disposable tray for catching drips under the grill looked like.  Guess he smelled our burger residue.

At one point we were sittting in the campground and there were lots of birds chirping away.  Dave used the ID app to see what kinds they were.  Here is the list.

We took a bike ride through the park which included a couple of campgrounds and a trip around the lake.  Here are a couple of pics of the scenery.

It’s definitely spring in Kansas, the weather is so nice we are enjoying being outside being active, reading, etc.

Mothers Day was a nice day.  Chatted with my Mom and my boys and got in a 3.3 mile hike.  Hiked to the top of a hill and got to see a good view of the lake .  Lots of birds around and things are that bright spring green.

Oriole

Yucca getting ready to bloom. The stem looks like a large asparagus

Steps (above) and foundation (below) that we came across on our hike.  There were no markers as to what it once was.

There were alot of vultures at the park as well.  They have a very large wing span and were fun to watch coast.

Caught this one all spread out.

Today we were back to very windy weather.  It is beautiful blue sky and bright sunshine, but 30 mile an hour winds with higher gusts.  So a couple of short walks around the campground, but not up to the top of the hill like we were planning.

Tomorrow we leave for Tuttle Creek State Park near Manhattan, KS.  I am looking forward to going to the OZ Museum that is nearby.

Til next time…
